Capacity Building

Our lab is committed to strengthening skills and knowledge among students, researchers, and practitioners. Through specialized training programs, workshops, internships, and field-based learning, we build capacity in ecological research, GIS applications, and environmental management. These initiatives empower the next generation of scientists and equip stakeholders with tools to address real-world environmental challenges.

DGPS Training

The ECO-GIS Lab provides hands-on training in Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) for students to strengthen their field data collection skills. The training covers principles of DGPS, operation of equipment, and field applications in ecological and environmental studies. Students gain practical experience in high-precision mapping, spatial data recording, and integration with GIS for research and conservation planning. This training equips students with essential geospatial skills required for advanced ecological research and professional careers.

Drone Survey

The ECO-GIS Lab also conducts training programs on Drone-based Survey and Mapping for students. The training introduces the basics of UAV operation, flight planning, safety protocols, and data acquisition using drones. Students are guided through processing aerial imagery for applications in vegetation mapping, forest monitoring, land use analysis, and environmental assessments. Through hands-on practice, participants gain valuable skills in using drone technology for ecological research and geospatial studies, enhancing their technical expertise and career readiness.

Differential GPS training and Data processing

The ECO-GIS Lab provides specialized training in Differential GPS (DGPS) for accurate field data collection and mapping. Students are trained in equipment handling, field survey techniques, and error correction methods. The program also includes data processing sessions, where students learn to download, clean, and integrate DGPS data with GIS platforms for ecological and environmental applications. This comprehensive training equips participants with practical skills in high-precision spatial data generation and analysis for research and conservation planning.

Internship Opportunity at ECO-GIS Lab

The ECO-GIS Lab at Pondicherry University offers internship opportunities for motivated students interested in ecology, conservation, and geospatial technologies. Interns will gain hands-on experience in areas such as forest ecology, fire ecology, species distribution modeling,  and urban heat island analysis. Training will include exposure to GIS, remote sensing, field data collection, and ecological research methods, providing valuable skills for academic and professional growth. Students from environmental sciences, ecology, geography, forestry, and related disciplines are encouraged to apply.
